LUK, Inc. 22nd Annual Common Ground Community Event Press Release
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 08/19/2021
On Saturday, August 14, 2021, LUK, Inc. hosted the 22nd Annual Common Ground Community Event and Basketball Tournament at JoAnn “Mama” Fitz Memorial Playground in Fitchburg. In addition to the basketball tournament, the event included other local information resource tables and music. The Common Ground Basketball Tournament promotes awareness of youth violence prevention efforts and brings together neighborhoods and community leaders throughout Fitchburg. This year, there were eight teams and for the first time, we were able to have two girls’ teams play in the tournament! Thank you to all of the young men and women that we're able to be a part of this event, as well as our LUK Peer Leaders, Albert Ortiz, and Najid Figueroa for the hard work put in before, during, and after the event.
“I started doing this event back in 2000 when it was accompanied by a peace march and rally so this is my 21st year refereeing this tournament… I have been able to see kids grow up through this event from when they are really young to when they are old enough to start refereeing alongside of me. It really does a lot for these kids in this community and is something really special that I get to be a part of every year.” – Referee, Silas Donsom
We would also like to say a special thank you to our sponsors:
