LEOMINSTER — The Boys and Girls Club in Leominster will host Let Us Know’s 15th annual Youth Leadership Summit on April 18 free to the public, with canned goods and other items being collected for local food drives.

“The whole focus of the event is encouraging and engaging youth during school vacation to be recognized as leaders in their communities,” said mentor recruiter Amanda Landry, who helps organize the event.

Let Us Know is a multiservice, nonprofit social service agency with offices in Fitchburg, Worcester and Webster — dedicated to improving the lives of youths and their families. The annual summit is for middle and high school students from across Worcester County during spring vacation.

For the second year in a row, Overlook Middle School in Ashburnham will be sending its entire eighth grade — about 200 students — to participate in the summit.

“We have been fortunate in receiving funding through SimplexGrinnell to provide transportation,” said School Guidance Counselor Cathy Keene, who will accompany the students on the trip. “For their admission fee, students will be required to bring a food item for the drive.”

Ms. Keene said students who attended last year had a good experience.

“It’s really exciting for us to be able to attend this year,” she said. “It was such a positive experience for our school, and I’m sure it will be again this year.”

This year’s theme is “Race Against Hunger,” in conjunction with nonperishable food drives for “Kylee’s Kare Kitz for Kidz” and “Karing for Kidz.”

All attendees are encouraged to bring an item to the program, with some examples being macaroni and cheese, fruit snacks, juice boxes, soup, or any other food items.

Let Us Know provides scholarships to seniors in the county each year, and this year, two $500 scholarships will be awarded. Students will also participate in workshops.

“(The scholarship recipients) are seniors whose peers look up to them for the activities that they are involved in,” said Ms. Landry.

There are also seven awards for exemplary youth leaders and youth groups.

Let Us Know asks that any group who would like to attend the free summit from 8:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. register via email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Individuals are welcome to show up the day of the event without registering.
